Tallahassee author Lynda Moultry will share her fashion tips for plus-size ladies at noon Saturday in the Tallahassee Mall to launch the first-ever Phat & Phabulous Fashion Tour.

Moultry, a special products editor and writer for the Democrat, will sign copies of her book here in Tallahassee before taking it on an East Coast tour. A nationwide tour is in the works.

She said she felt like her hometown was the best place to launch her book.

"I am from Tallahassee and this is where I really get the most love and support," Moultry said. "There are so many beautiful plus-size women in Tallahassee who have been supportive and are excited about the book and the event."

Saturday's signing will feature exhibitors and business that cater to plus-size women, many of whom say they find it difficult to find stylish clothing.

"This is a national issue," she said. "It has only been recently that plus-size designers and retailers have begun to duplicate fun and funky trends found in average sizes."

The East Coast tour will make stops in Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa and Miami before wrapping up in New York City for the BookExpo America in June. After the tour, Moultry will do shows and signings in smaller cities across the country.

At each stop there will be a fashion show, signing, consultants on site, a retailer expo, a fashion preview, a motivational luncheon and a cocktail party.

Moultry also has collaborated with nonprofit company Dangerous Curves Jacksonville, which has a plus-size modeling troupe.

The author is a 13-year veteran of the Democrat who writes a regular blog called Plus Place at www.tallahassee.com. Selected blog entries are republished in Style Magazine each month.

A portion of the Saturday event's proceeds will be donated to the Bond Community Health Center's Women's Health Program to promote pregnancy check-ups for expectant mothers. n
