Lighthouses and runways don't often come together, but local models will be taking the fashion runway at 1 p.m. May 17 at the Jones Center for Families in Springdale to benefit the Arkansas Nautical Museum.

The nonprofit museum, housed at Frisco Station Mall in Rogers, next to Hobby Lobby, teaches nautical history and geography through tours and classes such as Lighthouse 101 and water safety.

Fashion show coordinator Marilyn Annen said the first Fashion Show Regatta is an effort "to keep the museum afloat, literally and figuratively," and is sponsored by the Northwest Arkansas Boat Club, the Beaver Lake Power Squadron, Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Arkansas Nautical Museum.

Local male and female models will be decked out in nautical-inspired attire, one of this season's fashion trends.

The boating, sports and leisure-wear is being provided for the show by Coldwater Creek, Chico's and Wal-Mart Supercenter.

Admission is $20 for the show, what Annen called a "leisurely luncheon," silent auction and door prizes.

Silent auction items will include a romantic moonlight cruise atop a houseboat on Beaver Lake, an elegant dinner for eight overlooking Beaver Lake and boat and personal watercraft rides.

Mirandi's Cafe is catering the luncheon of parmesan chicken salad on mixed field greens, carrot cake, tea and coffee.

Jan and Dean Muetzel founded the permanent museum in 2004. In the previous 10 years, they took their exhibits and classes where requested.

Annen said the museum is stocked with, "an amazing amount of materials," that include maps, hangings, lighthouses, model ships and nautical uniforms.
