Polymer Group, Inc. (PGI) (OTC Bulletin Board: POLGA; POLGB) today launched MediSoft® Ultra(TM), an advanced high-performance fabric for medical garments and other single-use apparel.
New capabilities at the company's recently opened state-of-the-art plant in Suzhou, China, and proprietary advances in PGI's spunmelt manufacturing process enable the company to achieve the higher barrier protection, greater comfort and enhanced softness that the market is seeking.
"We enhanced our MediSoft® offering to make it even more soft and comfortable so that healthcare and other workers can wear these single-use garments for longer periods of time, with a higher level of protection against the spread of fluids and risks of contamination," said Fernando Marin, senior director of PGI's global medical business.
This new premium fabric for surgical gowns and drapes expands the company's medical and protective apparel product line, offering more choices for suppliers. Introduced here at the International Engineered Fabrics Conference and Expo (IDEA07), MediSoft® Ultra(TM) is now commercially available.
MediSoft® Ultra(TM) fabrics exceed the Association of the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) gown and drape industry standard (PB70) for Level III garments of 50 centimeters in hydroheads, a measurement of barrier properties, and achieves greater than 75 centimeters in internal testing.
Manufactured at PGI's Suzhou plant, all MediSoft® products meet the highest-quality medical industry standards, including European standard EN 13795, IST 80.6 and EN 1149 for surface resistivity.
In addition to medical uses, MediSoft® Ultra(TM) is ideally suited for protective apparel, including that used by homeland security, law enforcement and specialized industrial applications where single-use garments are worn for extended periods of time.
"We are excited to be expanding our popular MediSoft® family with this new premium product that takes our offerings to the next level," Marin said. "MediSoft® Ultra(TM) delivers enhanced softness and comfort, as well as the drapability and breathability of spunlace fabrics, combined with the higher protection and cost advantages of spunmelt technology."
