Plymouth has been named as the worst dressed city in the UK, according to a fashion survey.

A national poll of 3,000 people by Miss Butterfly revealed nearly half the people questioned in the Devon city did not care about fashion.

"With the shocking sights I see on the streets, I'm not surprised," said Plymouth resident Rebecca Wills.

But not everyone was upset. "There are more important things in life," said charity shop browser Joanne Wilson.

'Must-haves'

The student told BBC News she was "quietly proud" of not having bought clothes from anywhere but charity shops since she started her university degree course.

"It's not just about money though. I despair when I see people dressed up to the nines in the latest 'must-haves', with absolutely no regard to their age or size."

Aberdeen, Leeds and Leicester narrowly scraped in above Plymouth to take second, third and fourth spots as the least fashionable cities.

Butterfly spokesperson said: "It's incredible how attitudes to fashion differ so dramatically between the regions."

London, Cardiff and Newcastle were named as the most fashionable cities, with Kylie Minogue, Victoria Beckham and Jennifer Aniston named as the top three fashion icons.
